Challenging the status quo and negotiating with managers, senior leaders and unions to reduce the MT burden and release 12,000 staff hours per year while maintaining legal and regulatory obligations and improving compliance.
We traditionally had 12 different mandatory training modules, some of which were face-to-face and others which were online. Booking and attending face-to-face training was difficult and involved people travelling around the country to attend. Attendance figures then needed to be sent to our Administration where compliance data was uploaded manually - figures were out of date and delays caused conflict.
We reduced the number of modules from 12 to four and put them all online so that compliance figures were updated immediately and staff could access the material from anywhere (even from home) and complete them at any time at their own pace.
As a result, mandatory training compliance rates rose dramatically and have stayed between 96-98%.
In the process we also standardised the training requirements to roles rather than individuals to improve the mobility of staff.
Work is currently being undertaken to make the four modules more accessible to colleagues with impaired sight or dyslexia.
